Hartford, CT, April 7, 2016– Mrs. Arroyo-Hunter’s Kindergarten class, at Parkville Community School in Hartford, celebrated Earth Day 2016 in a special way.  The class was awarded first place in an Earth Day essay and project contest sponsored by Unitex, a leader in the healthcare laundry industry, and regional business with locations throughout the Northeast including a facility in Hartford.  As part of the program, Unitex challenged students from kindergarten to 5th grade to show “their best clean and green” practices by explaining how they embrace earth friendly habits. The team at Unitex hosted a pizza party for the winning kindergarten class and also made a generous donation to the school to be used for future student programs.

An advocate for green technology, Unitex was excited to partner with the teachers at Parkville Community School to encourage students to take better care of the earth.  Giving back is also a huge part of the company’s DNA, especially for the local schools.

“We appreciate the donation from Unitex and their interest in working with our school again for Earth Day 2016,” said Angela Fernandez, Family & School Support Service Provider, Parkville Community School. “Our students were beyond thrilled to take part in this contest and we are certain that they will continue to think about their part in helping keep the earth clean and green.”

Mrs. Arroyo-Hunter’s Earth Day Essay:

Today on Earth Day, we cast the stones that will cause the ripples of change we want to see in our world.  To save our trees, to clean our air, and make our water pure!  Reduce, reuse, and recycle is what we learned. It will make us sustainable and save our world.  We may be small in size, but we are might with our hearts.  We want to save the lives of all creatures and their habitats. From the huge great white sharks in the deep blue see to the tiniest Yunque rainforest Coqui.  We might be in Kindergarten, but it is easy to see that the future of our Earth depends on you and me!
