1922 - Max Potack takes over the business

1947 - Moving from Brooklyn to the Bronx

1962 - Bernard buys out the last remaining Cromwell partner.

1963 - Bernard takes over the business

Bernard suffers a heart attack, and his son Michael (recently graduated from college) takes over operating responsibility.

1972 - A facility in Monroe, NY is purchased

1974 - A Middletown, NY facility is purchased

A Middletown, NY facility is purchased, whose focus is 100% healthcare. The name becomes Shared Textile Services and is still in place today.

1984 - We open our first ambulatory/physician practice facility in Mt. Vernon, NY

The Bronx plant, overloaded again, is converted to a healthcare processing facility, taking the name Unitex Textile Rental Services. And we open our first ambulatory/physician practice facility in Mt. Vernon, NY.

1987 - Unitex acquires Med-Apparel Services

Unitex acquires a 50% interest in Med-Apparel Services

Unitex acquires a 50% interest in Med-Apparel Services and, within two years, owns 100% of the resident clothing processing facility. We also introduce Specialty Services.

1992 - Unitex enters the Connecticut long-term care market

Unitex enters the Connecticut long-term care market. A year later, Unitex purchases a laundry facility in Waterbury, CT.

1995 - David Potack joins the company

David Potack joins the company as General Manager of the Uniform and Hospitality/Ambulatory facility in Mount VernonDavid Potack joins the company as General Manager of the Uniform and Hospitality/Ambulatory facility in Mt. Vernon, NY. He immediately moves the focus from hospitality to healthcare accounts.

1996 - A 7th Unitex facility opens

A 7th Unitex facility opens in Hartford, CT. This is the beginning of the Unitex engineering model, a state-of-the-art linen facility with a continuous batch washer/tunnel washing machine 75 feet in length!

2001 - Robert Potack joins the company

Robert Potack joins the company as Plant Supervisor in the Bronx, NY processing facility, then becomes Operation Manager. Our 9th processing facility (for medical apparel, uniforms and related products) opens in Hartford, CT.

2003 - Unitex constructs our largest and most automated healthcare laundry facility

Unitex constructs our largest and most automated healthcare laundry facility, in Mt. Vernon, NY. It can produce 45 millions pounds of laundry a year.

2008 - New 65,000 sq. ft. facility in Newburgh, NY opens.

2011 - Our 10th facility opens in New Brunswick, NJ

Our 10th facility opens in New Brunswick, NJ: 60,000 sq. ft processing more than 57 million pounds a year. It is the greenest facility in North America, using the least amount of water, chemicals and energy per pound while recycling every consumable.

Jon Potack, completes his 10 years of training at Mt. Sinai Medical Center. 2012 - Our 11th facility opens in New Brunswick

2016 - Unitex acquires Oceanside Institutional Industries LLC

Unitex acquires Oceanside Institutional Industries LLC, one of the largest healthcare linen rental, laundry and uniform rental providers on the East Coast. Unitex takes over Oceanside’s business in Long Island and NYC including six hospitals, 14 nursing homes and approximately 50 outpatient healthcare accounts.

2018 - Unitex acquires Medi-Clean Healthcare Laundry Service, LLC

Unitex acquires Medi-Clean Healthcare Laundry Service, LLC, a Pennsylvania-based healthcare laundry company. The highly regarded, eight-year-old company serves clients across Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware.

With this acquisition, Unitex integrates over 450 primarily out-patient customers that Medi-Clean has served.

2020 - 12th facility opens, first one in Massachusetts

Phase one of our two-part facility construction opens in Lawrence, MA. The first phase of the opening is going to service hospitals and nursing homes in the northeast. Once production is fully underway, the entire 188,000-square-foot facility

will produce over 89 million pounds of clean linen and uniforms annually and employ over 350 local people. Will specialize in healthcare uniforms and other specialty linen as well as environmental products.

2020 - Unitex acquires United Linen Service

Unitex acquires United Linen Service, located in Lawrence, MA. United has long served the healthcare industry in Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Maine and now Unitex will take over their hospitals and extended care business in the area.

2022 - 13th plant opens in Lawrence , MA

13th plant opens in Lawrence, MA completing the second phase of dual-purpose plant construction. This facility specializes in healthcare uniforms and other specialty linen as well as environmental products. Our service footprint now

extends north into Maine, New Hampshire and further west to better service Massachusetts and parts of Vermont.

2022 - On July 25th Unitex celebrates its 100 Year Anniversary

On July 25th, 1922 Max Potack registered A&P Coat & Apron and Linen Supply as a corporation in NY. To celebrate 100 years of service, all of our 13 facilities hosted BBQ lunches for all of our team members, with special commemorative giveaway items and raffle prizes. This was a day we will remember for many years!
