The Mayor and His Team Were Extremely Impressed with the Facility, its Staff and Business Direction

Linden, NJ, June 2017— In June of 2016, Unitex opened its doors in Linden, New Jersey, and for the past year, the company has happily called its facility on 301 Pleasant Street home.  As the 4th facility in New Jersey and 12th facility overall, Unitex’s Linden plant created over 200 new jobs for local residents. In addition to job creation, the facility’s leaders are becoming increasingly involved in the city by creating new relationships with local organizations and investing in community programs like the Earth Day event run by the Linden Library and Environmental Commission.  To that end, the team at Unitex invited Linden Mayor Derek Armstead, Mayor’s Aide Rebecca Kerins-Tattoli, Latino Economic Development Center (LEDC) Director Rich Puschel, and Bidisa Rai from the Gateway Chamber to tour the local facility and to take part in discussions on business development.

Mayor Armstead and his colleagues were incredibly impressed with the company’s extreme attention to cleanliness and hygiene, as well as the high-quality products and equipment that are used within the plant. All agreed that they would highly recommend Unitex to local hospitals and medical facilities as a vendor of choice. Unitex General Manager, Peter Leotsakas and his staff were ecstatic to host Mayor Armstead and his team.

“It was a pleasure to meet Mayor Armstead and we are beyond thrilled that he was very impressed with our facility, company and staff,” said Unitex General Manager, Peter Leotsakas. “As a leader in the healthcare laundry industry, we are always looking to improve upon our business, and by inviting key local leaders like Mayor Armstead into our facility, we are able to have open communication as well as discuss ways to work together productively in the future.”

Unitex’s Linden Facility at a Glance:

Unitex’s Linden facility (a 67,000+ sq. ft. plant) has the capability to process 1.1 million pounds of linen per week. The facility currently serves hospitals and nursing homes in N.J. and N.Y. Inside this state-of-the-art processing facility, visitors can see huge slings holding more than 200 pounds of laundry each, while workers busily sort thousands of pounds of linens.  Alongside this process, automatic machinery that moves and sorts the linens through the plant feed washing machines that are each capable of washing over 7,000 pounds of laundry an hour.

Since Unitex makes environmental stewardship a priority always, the Linden facility does a variety of things that will help improve carbon footprints in the future. In addition to its green technology, Unitex reuses and recycles material regularly. The Linden plant, in particular, is comprised of the most advanced laundry and linen processing systems in the world.
