coverdavid_2Mt. Vernon, NY, October 2016— David Potack, Senior Vice President of Unitex, was recently elected as the 63rd Chairman of the TRSA (Textile Rental Service Association). In this position, David will bring analytical and outreach skills that will help make a difference in the industry. David and other executives at Unitex have worked with TRSA for many years, and this new role is a continuation of the great ideas and support that both parties have contributed to the industry.

TRSA is the leading organization for textile rental service businesses.  They serve members by promoting and protecting their companies and educating owners/operators, executives and management. From advocacy and professional development to community support and ongoing research and trends, TRSA is the voice of the industry.

As part of his new role, David led efforts to manage a recent legislative challenge in the form of a laundry licensing bill that was unanimously backed by Mayor Bill de Blasio and the City Council. As issues emerged amid claims of cleanliness problems and potential health issues in New York City laundries, David stepped in to ensure the need for change. While working with TRSA staff and local politicians, David was able to help produce a workable bill for all parties involved.

According to David as quoted in the recent feature story, “We took a very visible, active role in trying to craft and frame out logical, common-sense stipulations in whatever the final rule will be.” “That’s important because that’s the type of law that other municipalities may want to adopt.”

In addition to tackling issues on cleanliness, David is also taking on an active role in defending the textile services industry against unfair or unworkable laws and regulations. He will also focus on external and internal outreach within the industry and make engagement a huge priority.  Encouraging companies and its members to take part in more industry wide events and programs is crucial, and worker safety is always top of mind.

David add, “Safety is as paramount a focus as anything we do, and our employees are the life blood of our businesses,” he says. “There’s a certain moral/ethical compass that we all have to live by that we have to create safe environments for employees who trust us to do that for them.”

On and off the job, David is highly regarded among his peers, colleagues and friends who see him as a visionary team leader and family man who cares about people in need. In addition to his newly appointed role within the TRSA, David will continue to manage Unitex and push the company in a forward thinking and positive direction. Advocacy, green environmental practices and charity will continue to be at the cornerstone of this leading company.

David was featured in this month’s issue of Textile Services magazine.  As the cover story in this issue, David shared his views on how to successfully grow the textile services industry.
